This Week's Idle Thoughts
by Jo Ann Hlavac  email me 05/20/09
This week we were at the House that Hump built for the All Star race.  I have a few idle thoughts I'd like to share.

The racin’ gods smiled us in terms of weather this past weekend.  Only a few scattered showers even though it was supposed to storm.

The truck race once again kicked butt!  Anyone who calls themselves a race fan and doesn’t go to a truck race when it is at a track near them should be ashamed of themselves.
Kyle Busch was a wild man once again in the truck race.  Even if you don’t like him you have to admit he is exciting to watch come from the back of the pack.  And we got to see it happen twice Friday night.  He came from 10th to first in four laps...only problem is Ron Horniday came from 13th to first 1 lap later.

I told Jimmy that Rowdy catching Horniday was one thing but passing him was another whole ball game.  I think Horniday would’ve wrecked them both before he would let Busch pass him.  Then he would have kicked his butt when he got out of the car!  And in that fight, age and wisdom would win!

I actually thought it was one of the better all star races maybe cause so many of them have sucked. The first segment dragged but the two 20 lappers and the 10 lapper were exciting.  There was good bit of 3 wide racing.  If 50 out of 100 laps are decent, well I am pretty happy with that due to the way racing  has been lately.

I think for the first segment they need to add something like the 5 last drivers are booted, then the next 20 lap segment 5 more get booted then leave the last 2 segments as like there are.

I have said it before that the way to add excitement to the regular races is to have heat races that eliminate drivers.

As for Logano getting the “fan vote”, THERE IS NO WAY ANYONE IS GONNA CONVINCE ME IT IS NOT RIGGED!!!!  I have nothing against Logano but I find it hard to believe he garnished that many votes.  Maybe Home Depot made all their employees vote for him before they could get their paychecks.

And speaking about vote fixing, Kasey Kahne’s 2008 win is the best one?  ARE YOU FREAKIN’ KIDDING ME?  Better than Rusty booting Darrell for the win?  Better than the pass in the grass that wasn’t really a pass for the win?  Better than what I consider the one and only time Michael Waltrip actually made a great race move by taking Earhardt and Texas Terry 3 wide in turn ½ to win?  Better than Kyle wrecking Earnhardt, then Davey and Kyle side by side at the checkers with Davey wrecking, waking up in the hospital and having to ask “Who won?”  I just don’t think so

Ok when I first heard the report about Mayfield buying an infield ticket then getting into the hospitality area I told Frankie, “He must know our trick about not making eye contact and looking like he knows what he is doing and where he is going.”  And I think it was funny that he showed up.  Good for him defending himself and refusing to go to rehab if he isn’t guilty but bad for him if he is indeed guilty and doesn’t go to rehab.

The first report I read about NASCAR making Mayfield leave said “No one who fails a drug test is allowed in the infield”.   This made me laughed because let’s get real, many infields would be empty if that was the case!

Now I do not see black helicopters everywhere BUT there is just more to the failed Mayfield test.  Most people know that meth/crank is made from everyday ingredients one of them being the main ingredient in allergy medicine.  That is why it is kept in the pharmacy, you have to sign for it and can only get a certain amount each month.  So I buy his explanation.  And I do not think NASCAR is “out to get Jeremy” but I do think they jumped the gun on suspending him and it is biting them.

And what was up with them telling him they would test a second sample then just retested the same sample in the same lab?  Something I learned a long time ago about life applies here; “If you keep doing the same thing the same way you can not expect a different outcome.”

Why do tracks open all the grandstands
instead of just the ones on the
frontstretch when they know it isn’t going
to be a sell out?  Lowe’s holds 170,000
people and with the fans that were there
all spread out it looked bad.

I wonder how many Bubbas were hoarse
on Sunday from yelling Ric Flair signature
call”Woooooo” cause they all were all
night?

Best shirt at the race Saturday night was
hand made and had “Mark Martin doesn’t
need Viagra to run hard.”
