RACE RECON
My Take on the Big Meeting
by Mad Mikie (Mike's Page) 06/02/09
our thinking was staying put on the new car. It was a good exchange." - Faux King Brian

You think the car is putting on a good show? We fans and the drivers don’t. We think it’s one of the worst ideas to hit Motorsports, just behind you as(s)cending to the thrown (flushing sound), the implementation of the Chase for the Chumps, taking $93 million to let an outsider into NA$CAR, and the Top 35. You obviously don’t watch the same races we do or probably don’t even watch the races at all because if you did, you’d see what a disaster the sport has become under your Royal Guidance. All the cars look the same like the IROC cars did. They handle worse than the IROC cars. And they don’t resemble anything that’s on the street. At least IROC had that going for them. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Run something that resembles the street counterparts, get rid of the Top 35, let the fastest 43 race on Sunday, and get rid of the Chase for the Chumps. If you want to make the points races more exciting, give more points for winning. And quit trying to turn Motorsports into a stick and ball sport. That ain’t gonna happen. The round peg doesn’t fit in the square hole no matter how big of a hammer you use Your Majesty.

"We covered that very carefully," he said. "There were some questions still remaining. Hopefully, we cleared that up." - Faux King Brian regarding the drug testing program

Well Your Highness, with all the stuff that can cause a false positive and the problems with your testing company, you need to take some advice from real professionals regarding any type of drug testing program. What you have right now is like the “actions detrimental to stock car racing” penalty. All very vague and subject to interpretation by you, your henchmen, and your testing agency. You may have cleared it up for some but the whole thing is about as clear as mud to folks on the outside as well as some on the inside.

“And we have a lot of smart people in the industry. We had Roger Penske here. We had a good communication line in the first place. We just want to build on that." - HRH

Yes, there are a lot of smart people in the industry. Too bad we have a dunce playing the part of the ringmaster for this 3 ring circus. Your idea of communication is “I talk, you listen, end of story”. You better take heed to some of the words the drivers, owners, and crew chiefs because if you don’t, things aren’t going to improve on the track, in the grandstands or with the TV ratings.

"In the end there was no answer, but we also learned a lot of things we need to talk about. It's like a marriage. It's a two-way street. You need to talk about things to make it better." - Ryan Newman

There’s an old saying about marriages and two sides to every story. Since the passing of Dale Sr. and Bill Jr. stepping down, there has been no two way communication. It’s all been the Emperor of All Things NA$CAR’s Royal Edicts, which have been one way communication; from the top down with no allowance for any communication from the bottom up. If NA$CAR really wants to allow for honest communication, then it needs to loosen up a lot. Criticism needs to be allowed, even if it compares NA$CAR to the WWE. And why not? With the way things are manipulated behind the scenes, it might as well be the WWE because that’s exactly how they operate. NA$CAR manipulates the races under the guise of various penalties for drivers who criticize it or to pay back some favors it owes a certain manufacturer it took $93 million from in the form of the ever present Ms Terry DeBris Caution or Phantom Rain Cautions. So the criticism was and still is justified. Drivers, crew chiefs, and fans are people, not peasants like HRH believes them to be. People need to be able to express themselves and to vent. If it means criticizing The Crown, then so be it. If it means questioning the faulty logic which comes from the top, then allow it. If you really want two way communications, then be prepared for the consequences and comments that come with it. As Thomas Jefferson once said, "A little revolution now and then is a healthy thing".

"It's NASCAR's responsibility to try to do what's best for the sport. The tone of the meeting was very positive. We discussed just about everything in an open forum." - Jim Hunter

So far you haven’t done what’s best for the sport. If anything you’ve ruined it and hopefully it can be salvaged. Read above about eliminating the Top 35, etc. to improve the sport. Plus add dumping His Royal Highness to it and replacing him with somebody outside the France family who actually has some knowledge of just what the traditions, history, and running the sport are about. We’ve determined that what’s best for the sport isn’t His Royal Highness. Never forget, Faux King Brian admitted he didn’t know much about the sport when he took over from Bill Jr. And from what we’ve seen under his tenure upon the throne (flush again), he still doesn’t know anything about it.

"No solutions. A lot of great ideas. I really expect NASCAR to formulate groups to really drive a lot of different issues, sort of task force groups. ... Anything you do is going to take some time. - Mark Martin

Unfortunately Mark, there may not be enough time to address these issues. The decline in attendance, the plummeting TV ratings, the manufacturer problems, the sponsor problems, the behind the scenes manipulation, promotion and protection of the Chosen Ones, a car that’s a real bow wow and don’t hunt, and the continuous feeding of bovine fecal matter to the fans that everything is really peachy are going to take more time than these groups have to correct the problems unless some major shake-ups happen at the leadership level. Or in the case of His Majesty, lack of leadership. Somebody with some chutzpah and brains needs to grab the reins and take control of the present problems and do so ASAP. Otherwise, there’s not going to be much to salvage. Might I suggest Humpy Wheeler taking over from His Highness?

"We've got a great sport. Everybody pulling together will lead to making it better. Sometimes you just have to bring people together and remind them we're all in it together." - Mark Martin

We had a great sport Mark. Unfortunately, with the passing of the torch from Bill Jr. to Faux King Brian, who immediately burned his fingers and dropped it, things have gone downhill. If it wasn’t for the nepotism that put His Highness on the throne (flush again), he couldn’t get a job as the ringmaster of a flea circus. And that’s the problem. Everybody has to be pulling together to make it better. But as we all know, Faux King Brian knows what’s best for the sport and with an attitude like that, you’ll be a couple cans short of a six pack when it comes to everyone pulling together. As long as His Highness continues to pull for himself, it won’t matter how hard everyone else pulls to make things better.

Nothing was mentioned about improving the
broadcasts of the races which are a real concern
to us fans and should be a major concern to the
teams and their sponsors. Uh, Your Highness
re-runs of Speed Buggy and Wacky Racers is
not what’s actually going on at the track.

In other news, Faux King Brian was sadly
disappointed that Crayola would not be
introducing a new flavor; I mean color of crayon
this year. He still hasn’t found a shade of blue
which taste like the sky.

My thanks to all the members of the Patriot

I don’t have much hope for any real changes from the meeting at NA$CAR’s secret R&D facility. After reading some of the statements that were made on E$PN.com and the past track record of the Emperor of All Things NA$CAR on making things better, you better grab the buckets and start bailing boys because this boat's taking on a lot of water.

"We think the car is putting on a good show," France said, "but clearly if there's some adjustments without changing the financial [structure], we want to be open to that. We heard some ideas that we're going to consider. They heard some reasoning why
