not being at the Jake Elder fundraiser this year and knew he was under the weather. Dick finally succumbed to pneumonia and passed away. He was 78. Rest in peace Dick. Maybe the Big Guy upstairs will let you sub for him sometime.
Apparently the rumblings still aren’t over about wanna-be Pete Townsend imitator Shrub. Some fans are upset to the point where they’re calling for a boycott of JGR’s sponsors. In Larry Woody’s piece
he goes into detail about some of what’s going on with the outcry. Despite some lamestream media trying to say Sam Bass gave his “blessing” for the destruction of the priceless guitar, it seems to be their efforts to put some spin on the incident. Granted, we do need somebody with some chutzpah to liven things up in the garage and on the track, but is this the kind of livening’ up we need? Shrub is generating a lot of press, positive and negative, and you know the Ivory Tower Gang in Daytona has to be rubbing their greedy little mitts together over the publicity. But is this really the sort of image the sports wants or needs? I guess desperate times call for desperate measures and we all know how desperate NA$CAR is getting.
I read that Shrubby ordered two guitars after he did his Pete Townsend imitation. At least the two guitars and Busch ordering them are consistent. Now to find out just when he actually ordered them Was it the week before the race or after the race?
Jules the Engine guy came up with good comparison of which old driver Shrub is like. It’s not Iron Head as some would like to say. It’s more like Jabber Jaws. He either wins or wrecks and shoots his mouth off just like Jabber Jaws use to and has the same amount of respect for his fellow competitors as Jabber Jaws did.
And based on the “acting strange” requirements for NA$CAR’s drug testing, has Shrub been tested?
Some more spin from the lamestream media and others and I probably got caught up in it too and that’s the deal with Tony Stewart. Nothing against Tony and I‘m not trying to take anything away from him, it’s just the way things are being presented. It’s not a new team he has. He bought into an existing team. Granted, he brought in a lot of new equipment and personnel, but it’s still an existing team. Stewart-Haas is a Hendrick satellite team, just like HOF racing was a satellite team of JGR and is of Yates Racing today. I’m just trying to keep things accurate here folks. And before I forget, congrats on your win Tony. You did something that shut Jabber Jaws mouth up for a while.
In the “Tell Me It Ain’t So Department”, I read where the real King, Richard Petty, is working a 5 race deal with Braun Racing, which isn’t known for fielding MoPars. While the implied meaning was that The King’s teams would be driving something other than a MoPar, it could also mean that Braun could be fielding MoPars under the Braun name so that RPM can field more cars as Braun doesn’t normally run in Cup races. I can’t see RPM changing makes, especially with The King and his affiliation with promoting a lot of American made ideas and being considered to be All American. Not to mention the loss of fans, fan support, and fan money should a brand change come. So tell me it ain’t so there King.
It’s official that Fiat is one of the owners of Chrysler or some parts of Chrysler. Which parts they’re not saying but I’m sure it will eventually come out. Maybe they’ll bring the Father Guido Sarducci character from Saturday Night Live out of retirement to advertise for new the Fiat Charger or Fiat Ram?
I wonder if Perrier would sponsor the #55 car just like in Talladega Nights?
And speaking of sponsors, two thumbs up to Robby Gordon, Jim Beam, and Kid Rock for the Rock n Rebels Tour in which Kid Rock will be donating 50 cents from every ticket sold to Operation Homefront. While 50 cents may not seem like much, every little bit helps when it comes to the good work being done by the Operation Homefront folks. Considering how many tickets Kid Rock will probably sell, it should be a sizeable donation. How about upping it to a $1 a ticket Kid? Our vets and returning troops deserve it.
It’s good to see Boris Said will be back on the track at Sears Point. Boris has the kind of character we need to see more of at the track. Plus he’s a pretty decent wheelman. Hopefully Boris can find an honest-to-goodness full time sponsor and allow him to be at the track week after week. I’ve let my better half know since she’s something of a Said Head.
Something to think about is NA$CAR’s knee jerk reaction to various things that have happened over the years. Fireball Roberts death got the knee jerk reaction of mandatory fire-retardant drivers suits and fuel cells. Bobby Allison’s wild ride at
Talladega brought about the knee jerk reaction of
the restrictor plate. Dale Sr.’s death brought
about the knee jerk reaction of the SAFER walls
and the HANS device. Aaron Fike’s “confession”
of drug use on race day brought about the knee
jerk reaction of the NA$CAR random drug testing
program. NA$CAR is always reactive, never
pro-active and it doesn’t matter if it’s driver
safety, making the sport (if you can still call it
that) better, or drugs. They’re always behind the
power curve.
When asked about Roe versus Wade, The
Emperor of All Things NA$CAR said neither.
He’d take the Royal Helicopter as rowing or
wading would involve getting sweaty.
Once again, the Coast Guard to the rescue. On June 5th, a boat capsized that had 4 passengers on board. Luckily for them, they happened to be near an oil rig. The Coast Guard received the mayday call and rescued the boaters from the oil rig. And for once, there’s some video of the rescue showing the Coast Guard doing their good deed.
Too bad it didn’t make it into the lamestream media the way it should’ve. A little recognition for their good deeds would go a long way. So our thanks to the Coast Guard once again for not only keeping us safe but also for being the good Samaritans that they are.
