Every so often, Monte Dutton and I will send a few back and forth. I get a kick out of Jeff Myer’s Top 10 List at Frontstretch and we exchange a few e-mails. Just imagine if there was a mainstream, not lamestream, media web site where all of us dissidents could write and where fans had more of an input than what we have right now. How many actual live press conferences do you think His Majesty or his henchmen would have if they had a bunch of unholy blasphemers in there asking the questions that the lamestream media either don’t or won’t ask.? Oh the things dreams are made of.
Think back to the days of Inside Winston Cup and it’s successor INC and what happened when a driver decided to step back from racing or got dumped by a team. Speed TV was quick to dump them as well. Could we be seeing the last of the Co-owner of Motormouth Motorsports this year on the Speed shows? No more shilling for Heron’s, Nappy Auto Farts, or his car manufacturer when he’s supposed to be talking about racing because he won’t be there to do it. So who will step up to fill his vacated chair on the set? Robby Gordon? Nah, he rocks the Royal Barge too much. John Andretti? Nope, he doesn’t finish near the front that much. Carl Long? Well, he could use the money but he doesn’t race that much and until his fine is paid, he won’t be doing any racing. You’ve got to figure it’s going to be a driver who’s been around a while but isn’t real busy with sponsor appearances, doesn’t rock the Royal Barge, and doesn’t make so much money he doesn’t need what Speed pays out. So who do you think will take over when the time comes to bid a long overdue farewell to the Co-owner of Motormouth Motorsports from the set of TWIN?
Reading over the financial losses for NA$CAR’s conjoined twin I$C actually put a smile on my face. I’ve said that sky high ticket prices weren’t a good thing. I’ve said concession stand prices were too high. I’ve also said that the souvenir prices were too high. And where did they take their biggest losses? At the gate, the concession stands, and the souvenir trailers. Of course, you can bet His Royal Highness will blame it all on Dale Jr. who has no control whatsoever over any of these things. I’m surprised he hasn’t blamed Dale Jr. for his twins.
With Truex jumping ship from Chip and Dale Racing, you have to wonder just how much longer they’ll be around. The Dale part has had a very tough time finding sponsors since Dale Jr. left. You know the cutbacks by GM have got to be hurting them. And how much star power do they really have left on their roster? Not a heck of a lot. Selling off a few of the team aircraft might keep them alive for a little while but unless they can attract some big name driver to lure in some high dollar sponsors, the Dale part may not be around for much longer. It’s a simple matter of economics.
There are a few folks in the lamestream media trying to compare Tony Stewart with Alan Kulwicki and doing a poor job of it. Even Tony admits he’s got it better than Alan had it. Tony’s got a partner to help run the business end of things and the decision-making process. Alan had himself. Tony gets his cars, engines, etc from Hendrick. Kulwicki made his own. Tony’s got PR people to handle chasing down sponsors and handle appearances. Alan had himself. Tony bought into an existing operation. Kulwicki had to build his own. So to try to compare the two is like apples and oranges. I’m glad Tony is speaking about this comparison and how they aren’t alike. But as usual when it comes to the lamestream media, they tend to ignore things that won’t fit into their nice little niche or blow things out of proportion to make them seem more important than they really are. And it’s funny how they also seem to miss some important things too. News Flash! More palm trees have been assaulted in Daytona Beach. A trail of spilled “sodas” lead police from the Chart House to the Ivory Towers. Police baffled. Spokesman says they have no suspects. Film at 11.
Latest news regarding the mysterious Charles Collins and North Wilkesboro Speedway I didn’t trust this guy from the beginning and it seems my lack of trust was well founded. Hopefully this will clear the way for some legitimate entity to try and re-open the old gal. I hope this doesn’t affect the Buck Baker Driving School from holding classes there.
Randy, one of our fellow race fans, check in with some ticket prices for Martinsville. What was once $72 has been reduced to $40, which is a good deal. And after reading the I$C financial statements, you can tell they’re getting desperate to get butts in the seats. On the other hand, The Burton is still charging top dollar for Bristol tickets in spite of the fact that for the first time in many years, there’s plenty of empty seats. He may have to rethink his ticket prices for Bristol and a couple of other tracks if he wants to keep them at least half full. His insistence on the high Bristol prices will drive away more race fans, especially the ones who are season ticket holders, which make up a good portion of the Bristol race fans. Bad enough the poor racing from the COW is hurting Bristol and to compound it with high ticket cost? Wake up and smell the race fuel Bruton.
NOTE FROM LAIDBACKRACING.COM: We received our renewal in the mail and BMS has lowered the season ticket package and added in 2 more events.
And speaking of Bristol, is Badyear actually going to bring some decent tires to the race since they’re doing tire testing or will they do the usual and bring tires that are going to cause problems after just a few laps? Considering how poorly the COW performs and how boring it and the reconfigured track work together, you can bet that the best tires won’t be brought just so we have more Ms Terry DeBris and competition cautions to try to make the racing look exciting. Rumor has it Ms Terry DeBris will be dressed up in a Tennessee Vol’s cheerleading outfit for the August race, so keep an eye out for her.
The big news this week, or so far this week, is Truex going to Motormouth Motorsports. Pretty rough holding a press conference having to go up against all the lamestream media coverage of Michael Jackson’s memorial service. If it wasn’t for all the articles on Jayski about it, you’d never know it had happened. You know you’re getting old when you remember finding out about silly season changes when they went to Riverside for the first race of the season.
While the media was going totally gaga over the Michael Jackson’s upcoming tour, which is no more, Army Sgt 1st Class John Beale was being laid to rest. Link One Link Two
Is there something wrong with the media when somebody who gave their life in the defense of the flag, nation, and Constitution and to protect their comrades in arms isn’t considered to be worth a bit of ink in a newspaper, but the upcoming tour of some musical entertainer who has caused a lot of controversy makes the front page? Our condolences to the friends, family, and comrades of Sgt 1st Class Beale.
While we don’t hear much about the
humanitarian aid the military provides to folks in
Iraq, Afghanistan, and the rest of the world, we
hear even less about the average American
citizen making contributions to these
humanitarian efforts. Military families from
Elmendorf AFB in Alaska donated clothing,
shoes, boots, radios, and blankets which were
distributed to Afghan locals around the Parwan
and Kapisa areas. So to the families who
donated all these items and to the military
personnel who distributed them, a job well done
and the thanks of a former Air Force member.
And to the lamestream media who doesn’t have
the time to show the good things that our folks in uniform and their families are doing, shame on you.
