past things about Shana the wife not knowing about the drug use but Shana the girlfriend did? And apparently Mr. Lee was also living on the Mayfield property without their permission around this same time frame. Do you think he might have a bit of a credibility problem here? And of these new affidavit signers, which one was involved with Lisa Mayfield before the death of Jeremy Mayfield‘s dad? Notice how that seems to have been missed by the lamestream media too.
Some other things missed by the lamestream media goes back to the stay that was granted and how NA$CAR, HRH, and the rest of the band of merry henchmen violated some of the court’s procedural rules regarding appeals and that their case was meritless:
So why is it that the lamestream media isn’t mentioning all of this? Could it be because everything is being dictated from the Ivory Towers in Daytona Beach by Ministry of Propaganda Spinmeister Pharaoh Ramses Posthole? Heavens forbid we should get the entire truth. It might make His Royal Highness and his cronies look bad.
I may not be Fox News Channel (fair and balanced) but at least I’m putting out the things that the lamestream media seems to be conveniently missing in regards to the Mayfield vs. NA$CAR lawsuit and other things happening in the garage area. Now onto some other things.
While I was at my dad’s place of work, Standard Pre-Cast in Jacksonville Florida, I did an informal survey with some of the guys there that are racing fans. Based on their opinions, they’re not happy with the current state of affairs relating to the sport they use to know. The Kit Car needs to go, the play-off format doesn’t work (the exact phrase relates to a dead dog), our Fearless Inebriate leading things needs to be replaced, Jr. made a mistake moving to Hendrick, ticket prices are too high, that ain’t racin’ on TV, and a few more colorful things I can’t put into print. The overall feeling was that things plain and simply aren’t right in the sport and need to be improved upon in a major way. I only asked the questions folks. The guys in the fab and welding shop supplied the answers.
Jules the Engine Guy sent me this bit from Yahoo: Ten Big Companies That Are Veering Toward Bankruptcy Notice company #1, Hertz. Most folks don’t associate one of the most famous names in racing with Hertz but Roger Penske has got a lot of money tied up with Hertz. If Hertz shuts its’ doors, then both NA$CAR and the IRL could stand to lose a big team, big sponsors, and some big money. At #3 is the wonderful Cup Series sponsor. Losing them means a mad dash to find another sucker, I mean series sponsor. With the Fortune 500 companies watching every penny right now, it would be a very tough sell to lure one of them into Faux King Brian’s web of deceit. That means that somebody, probably a foreign owned car manufacturer, would have to up the ante and become the series sponsor. Unless of course, they decided to go with the Vinnie Babaganoosh Racing and Delicatessen Cup Series. That has a nice ring to it. Then there’s #6, Badyear. With them folding, that means His Highness loses a customer from his Brand Non-Sense marketing company. But would losing Badyear be such a bad thing for racing? It would open the doors for Hoosier, Bridgestone, BF Goodrich, and other tire companies to step up and flog their wears for a change and maybe even give the teams some decent tires to finally race on. The only real loser in that deal would be His Royal Highness, but that would be fitting as he is something of a loser anyways.
And here’s a Paul Harvey moment. Jim Beam and the rest of the story. Jim Beam is leaving NA$CAR but not leaving RGM. They're reducing their role to small associate sponsor level in Cup and upping their role on the off-road side, especially Dakar. There is also a good chance that it may not be exclusively the Jim Beam brand and could include one or more of the other Beam Global Spirits brands. Robby will also continue his Beam association through a personal services deal which includes his continuing support of Operation Home Front. Along with this, Polaris will be back, is a three year deal, and will include a specific number of Cup races beginning in 2010 as primary. Menard's will also be stepping up with co-promotion deals like they did this past weekend. So it looks like the original announcement presented by the lamestream media isn’t as dire as one would think. Isn’t it nice to know the whole story?
And somewhat related to Robby is Doug Reichart’s recent move to RGM. Doug has been serving as a spotter for Robby but is going to be making the move to Robby’s crew chief. Along with this Doug has been doing some work with Robby’s off-road racing operation, so he’s going to be a busy man year round. Could he also be seeing some financial problems coming for NA$CAR and is getting his future job secured? Maybe.
Things have returned back to normal with the TV ratings. Loudon was down 21.9% from last year. The thing to remember about this whole deal with the ratings is that even during the 4 weeks when they were up, they’re still way down from when the Village Drunk rose to the Emperor of All Things NA$CAR. So even when they’re up, they’re still down under the rule of the person who said he knows what’s best for the sport.
And speaking of TV ratings, what they don’t bother to tell you and that’s how NA$CAR stacked up against some of the other shows that are on. Like on the Richmond weekend. NA$CAR, with all of the Chase Hype, got about 5.5 million viewers in prime time. MTV got 11 million viewers for the MTV Awards, Jay Leno got 18 million, and the viewership for the all NFL games was over 17 million. Then this past weekend at Loudon, NA$CAR pulled in about 4 million viewers while the NFL pulled in about 24 million for the Dallas-NY game. What happened to those 75 million fans we kept hearing about for so long there Your Highness? 75 million total fans minus the 4 million who watched Loudon means that 71 million race fans were very much missing. You think somebody has been trying to pull the wool over our eyes with the ratings and numbers games?
Interesting how when Loudon ended on Sunday, JPM was 2nd but when he messed up on the post-race interviews, he somehow ended up finishing in 3rd. What an amazing coincidence. I sure would like to know what rule he violated to lose a position well after the race was over and for something that wasn’t related to actions on the track.
No major rule changes but some “tweaks” regarding the POS and testing? Interesting. I wonder if somebody had a sober moment and realized how screwed up things are with the Kit Car and the Cup Series?
A lot of the Loudon race coverage was that of the Top 12. The only real exceptions were with Jr. and the accidents. And how about that finish? Déjà vu of Dale Jarrett and the incident which led to the “no racing back to the flag” rule. NA$CAR’s excuses were half baked on why they waited so long to throw the caution flag. But then, they’ve been half baked with their excuses for some other races too. Like the infamous Daytona race when Mr. Happy won despite the carnage that was happening on the track. Of course, we missed all the appearances by Ms Terry DeBris. She showed up 3 times dressed as a Canadian Moose while they were at commercial. What an amazing coincidence. Yep, gotta love NA$CAR’s consistent enforcement of the rules and the missed appearances by Ms Terry DeBris.
Most of the articles since the race have been about Old Man Time and there’s nothing wrong with that. But what about some of the other drivers who had good finishes but aren’t in the Chase for the Chumps? We’ll be lucky to read much less hear anything about them. Nothing like having a controlled and biased media to keep trying to reinforce the message that the Emperor of All Things NA$CAR didn’t make a mistake when he implemented a half cocked play-off system that hasn’t worked.
Here we are in Year 6 of the Chase for the Chumps and Mafia Mike is saying to give it a chance? It hasn’t worked. We gave it 6 years. When a
President doesn’t work out, we vote him out of
office after 4 years. When a product doesn’t
work, we don’t buy it and it goes into oblivion.
But when something doesn’t work in NA$CAR,
we’re stuck with it. The leadership has proven to
do anything but lead. Instead of improving racing,
it’s become a shadow of its’ former self and is
nothing more than a 3-4 hour infomercial. Instead
of colorful characters filling the garage, we have
crewmembers and drivers who are either
vanilla-flavored clones or are so afraid to speak
because of the repercussions on their careers.
Ms Terry DeBris cautions have been the rule
rather than the exception. Sorry, we’ve given it a
chance. The Chase for the Chumps, His Royal
Highness, and his merry band of henchmen need to go the way of the Pet Rock.
And I want to send out a big thank you to the fine folks at NAS Jacksonville for the great job they’re doing and for giving me a few chuckles with some jokes not fit for mixed company. It’s been a while since I’ve heard some jokes like those. From an old wing nut to some salty sea dogs, many thanks.
