Daytona write that show for them last night or what? I'm sure you watched it or heard about it. If the race wasn't bad enough having Spencer and the Mouth tell me how great it was had me talking to my TV last night. It's been getting bad all season but I think it finally blew up Sunday. Wanna bet the crowds and ratings tank for the last 3 races. Sold our tickets for Sunday's race, glad we did. We'll still go to the USAC races Thursday night and the Truck and Busch races but just can't sit through Sunday's. I hope the powers that be open their eyes soon but I doubt they will.
Rick the Sign Man checked in with some interesting observations:
Here's something to think about Mike. With the Wimmer DUI, Waltrip crashing whether he's drunk or sober, Brian France's "soda incident", JC France and the narcotics....during the Talladega race there was a commercial/promotion of a band called the Zac Brown Band and a song "Toes". It's a cool song, very laid back and fun to listen to.....HOWEVER, one line of the lyrics, and I quote, goes like this, "Gonna lay in the hot sun and ROLL A BIG FAT ONE" I hope you recorded the "Ding-A-Ling and Barmy and Batty circus show" Sunday, I didn't, so you can see it yourself. If not, I'm sure it will come up again.
With all nasCRAP's "harsh" drug enforcements, don't you think that's a bit of an oxymoron, going against what they preach, when one of their commercials goes against what nasCRAP preaches?
Here are a few from Jeff:
I haven't seen one article concerning the "Car of Sorrow" causing Ryan Newman’s big tumble yesterday. Did you happen to notice how Newman's car went airborne as soon as the wind gathered under that hideous WING on the back of the car? It totally negated the roof flaps, which deployed, but couldn't stop the car from going skyward once the car turned backward. Check the replay.
How safe is that?
ps. The 48 rides around in the back all day and gets a top ten finish...and NASCAR wonders what is wrong with "the show."
Here’s a few from one of the many John’s who read us:
Other than Robby showing some stoutness and Newman telling it like it is that was one of the worst races since the Indy debacle a couple of years ago. I'm telling you Mike, if they put a Hanford device on the wing they could dump the restrictor plate and prevent the rear blow over we saw today.
And who trains NASCAR's safety crew, McDonalds? They left Newman on his lid for 20 minutes. A bunch of monkey's humping a football. Thank God there wasn't a fire. And also thank the Lord that the car didn't land in Harvick's lap. The driver's have bitched before that NASCAR needs a dedicated safety and medical team like IndyCar, F1, and the NHRA, but until 10 drivers burn or bleed to death on track it will never happen.
Do you think Mark Martin got his bell rung or was he just biting his tongue? Maybe a little of both.
When they were all running single file I thought to myself, wouldn't it be cool if they all slowed down to 55 mph and just putted around the track for 100 laps? Helton's head would have exploded.
And here’s some comments and observations from my buddy Dave down in Texas:
Wow! After NA$CAR made Bristol boring, who could have guessed that they could top themselves? Talladega boring? Even to the Booth Bozos? Gonna be a tough act to follow.
So.....were the drivers going in a long single file to teach NA$CAR a lesson (as suggested in the booth - guess he doesn't know he isn't supposed to say anything bad), or out of necessity, or what? Sure glad I didn't pay $150 to see that crap in person!
Did you *see* the empty seats?!? I've never seen it that empty before. You could see the remains of the road course in the infield (bet losing all that money hurt!). I wonder how many will come back next year?
Gee, DW said the COT can't fly off of the ground. Two did it today. What kind of "testing" did they do? Play the radio and blow the horn? Smaller plate too. What a piece of crap. Can't wait for the Nationwide version!
And finally.....how did JJ finish sixth? If he was in front of Martin, who was 24th, and the yellow came out and froze the field, shouldn't he have been 20th or so? Playing with the timing and scoring again? And how about that JJ interview after the race? "I can live with that number." Wow. Don't get so worked up! I'm really tired of JohnsonCAR.
Bet Newman has a few penalties coming his way, eh? How dare he criticize this mess? His comment about Bobby Allison and crew was spot on, I thought. I'm glad Mark kept his mouth shut and didn't say what he wanted to - sure don't want him to get pit road speeding violations (or shocks with too much pressure).
What a crappy "race"! But NA$CAR is happy, right? Two big wrecks to make all the news sports segments and JJ with a huge lead in the points. Doesn't get much better than that, does it?
And one Jo Ann got from bburnett88:
The problem with Dega isn’t just one thing. It’s not just the track, or just the cars or the drivers or the rules. It’ all four converging at same time resulting in the restrictor plate.
I don’t understand why the simple answer is so hard to recognize or acknowledge. I guess someone needs to explain this. What is so sacred about reducing the banking at Dega?
Dirt tracks aren’t in NASCAR’s schedule anymore and neither should 900 horsepower engines with 30+ degrees of banking. If you don’t or can’t get on board with that how about this. Many pundits say road course racing is great for NASCAR because left and right turns are a better test of a driver’s skill. So why not combine super speedway 30 degree banking with a right hand turn? If you support that belief then put a bus stop or chicane at the entry to turn 3 at Dega.
I’m big on tradition but not when preserving the past jeopardizes the present or the future. Either bring out the dozers and lower the banking which will reduce speed and eliminate the need for restrictor plates or add a bus stop/chicane to turn 3 entry which will reduce speed and eliminate the restrictor plate. Both would eliminate the real problem, restrictor plates.
Folks, you can’t make this stuff up. And some folks wonder what’s wrong with the sport and the people running it. Jules was a die-hard fan until Faux King Brian started screwing things up and this season put the icing on the cake. Terry’s been a race fan for many a year and seen some pretty decent races over the years. Rick the Sign Man hit the nail on the head about the mixed messages that’s being sent out by His Royal Highness and the official drug and alcohol policy and this is something I addressed earlier with the LaLaLand Beautiful People who are known to use drugs and/or have been busted for using them. Jeff’s observations on Newman’s airborne car and Johnson playing it safe are some valid points. John’s observations about the safety crew, Newman’s comments, the Hanford device, Mark Martin, and running single file are all good and very relevant to what’s going on and what‘s wrong with the sport. Dave hit a lot of points about the race too.
I hear from folks who have recently become fans all the way to folks who were fans before I was born so that covers a pretty broad spectrum and is a good cross-section of the fandom. I hear from folks who were in the racing business to folks who are still in it. While I may be labeled a naysayer by some and a nut by others, I have been proven to be right as time passes on since I first started giving my perspective on things. I’m not blowing my own horn here folks. While I may not be the most tactful person around, I have been honest in my opinions and perspectives on what’s been going on. And now we’re finally seeing some of the lamestream media coming out and saying some things that I’ve been saying and questioning since Day One. I’m not gloating or patting myself on the back like Faux King Brian does. I think we may finally be seeing some changes coming from the media and hopefully for the better.
During a joint exercise, Natural Fire 10, US Army Reserve and personnel from 5 African nations are providing some much needed health care to the people of the former home of dictator Idi Amin. Medical personnel from the 7225th Medical Detachment are providing care for local Ugandans. They have set up at the Pajimo Medical Clinic outside of Kitgum and work side-by-side with their U.S. Navy, Ugandan and Tanzanian counterparts, treating more than 500 patients per day. The team includes doctors, Navy dentists, pharmacists, nurses, physician assistants and medics. They provide medical, dental, optometry and pharmacy services, and even have a psychological nurse, Lt. Col. Jimmy Paulk, who counsels victims of domestic violence and persons with psychological problems. Patients are also given medicine and
vitamins to take home with them. That’s a lot
better medical treatment than what they got from
the former “President for Life” Idi Amin. Once
again, our service members are proving to be a
helping hand and compassionate caregivers to
those in need and yet we see and hear nothing
from our “wonderful” media here.
I know some folks make fun of this place, but
Golden Corral is offering a free meal to veterans,
service members, reservists, and National Guard
members on November 16th
see yet another company recognizing our folks
who have done so much for our country and the
personal sacrifices they make or have made. And no, I don’t get anything out of this. I’m just mentioning them because they’re taking that extra effort to recognize our veterans and service members.
