The Ole Days
SETTLING THE FIGHT OFF THE TRACK
Curtis Turner & Lee Petty didn’t get along too well. Turner made a fortune in the lumber industry & raced for the fun of it. Lee Petty raced to put food on the table.
At a race in Virginia one time Turner had been rough on his & Petty’s equipment. After the race Petty went up to confront Turner.
Turner was sitting on a fence having an after the race cocktail. Petty approached Turner with a rolled up newspaper. He questioned Turner’s rough driving. Turner made a grave mistake by trying to laugh it off. Petty whacked him with the newspaper. The newspaper had a torque-wrench rolled inside of it & Petty made his point.
